The small seal with tapering faceted back to the integral suspension loop, the oval seal engraved with crests and coat-of-arms in foliage mantling with outer corded border, circa 1600, goldsmith's mark M with dot below, 2.3cm. high

Lot Essay

The arms ermine, a chief quarterly argent and or are those of Peckham, a distinguished family who resided at Yaldham Manor, near Wrotham, Kent between 1327 and 1713 the year that Reginald Peckham, the last owner of the Manor, died. In 1634 some members of the family are known to have emigrated to America. Gold seals of this date are rare.
