A GEOMETRIC JUG
circa late 8th century b.c.
Globular in form on a low foot, with a tall, tapering cylindrical neck, funnel-shaped mouth and strap handle, with red-painted geometric ornament including bands on the rim and neck, cross-hatched lozenges low on the neck, sets of three radiating lines on the shoulders, triple bands below, the body with hatched complex meander, a band of dotted scrolling above and a checker-pattern below, rays above the foot and a ladder motif on the handle
