A EUBOEAN BLACK-FIGURED NECK-AMPHORA
circa 560-550 b.c.
The panel on the obverse with three bearded, dancing komasts, the neck with Dionysos and a satyr, the god running to the left, his left arm extended out in front, holding the handle of his kantharos, a vine in his right which trails behind, the satyr leaning forward from the weight of the wineskin he carries on his back, the panel on the reverse with a pair of confronting panthers, their heads turned frontal, both sporting red spots on their necks, the neck with the "Return of Hephaistos," the god riding on an ithyphallic donkey, holding the reigns in one hand and reaching back with the other toward a satyr following behind who attempts to violate the donkey; with a red band on the edge of the foot, another on the interior of the mouth, the panels with alternating red and black tongues at the shoulders
