AN ATTIC RED-FIGURED COLUMN-KRATER
attributed to the agrigento painter

The obverse with four revelers, including a youth to the right carrying an amphora over his shoulder, depicted nude but for a chlamys draped over his left arm, a walking stick in his right hand, walking right but looking back at a woman playing the double-flute, wearing a chiton and himation, a fillet in her hair, a dancing youth to the left, a chlamys over his shoulders and a fillet in his hair, gazing up into the bottom of his empty cup which he holds up by the foot, a walking stick in his right hand, and a youth to the left playing a barbiton, a chlamys over his shoulders; the reverse with four draped youths; the scenes framed by double rows of dots on either side and a band of tongues above, the obverse with dotted lotus bud chain on the neck, with rays above the foot, a double row of dots on the rim, palmettes on the handle-plates and dotted lotus bud chain on the upper side of the rim, extensive graffiti on the underside of the foot
