AN ETRUSCAN BUCCHERO CARYATID CHALICE
circa early 6th century b.c.
The deep bowl with notched carination at the base, a raised omphalos on the interior framed by incised radiating lines, the exterior with a band of rouletted fan motifs framed by incised lines above and three grooves below, the bowl supported on four mold-made struts, two in the form a winged nude female, the long wings extended to the base, her arms upraised, and two in the form of draped winged figures, holding tendrils of hair at their chests, the wings with rounded tips, all joined to the rim of the inverted conical ribbed base
