A REGENCY BRASS-INLAID ROSEWOOD SOFA TABLE
The rounded rectangular twin-flap top, crossbanded and with a stylised foliate border, above a pair of frieze drawers flanking a foliate- inlaid panel, on a square pedestal base with concave quadripartite base with downswept legs and brass claw caps and castors, the underside of one drawer inscribed in pencil 'Lady Crewe', restorations, two legs with repaired breaks

Lady Crewe (possibly Lady Margaret Primrose, wife of the 1st Marquess of Crewe (d. 1945).

Lot Essay

This sofa table bears the label 'Lady Crewe', possibly for a member of the Crewe-Milnes family, however it does not appear in John McLean's invoice, the cabinet-maker who supplied much of the Regency furniture for Crewe Hall, Cheshire.
