The three-quarter solid gallery above a moulded rectangular top and a frieze drawer, above an arch and flanked by two short drawers to each side, on turned reeded tapering legs, brass caps and castors, the drawers stamped 'GILLOWS LANCASTER', and the underside inscribed in pencil 'W. Cooper 10536', later handles
34 in. (86.5 cm.) high; 51 in. (129.5 cm.) wide; 28¼ in. (72 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

William Cooper is registered as one of the Gillows cabinet-makers (L. Boynton (ed.), Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995 p. 224.
This design relates to a dressing-table of 1811 illustrated in C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, Leeds, 1978, vol. II, p. 380, fig. 500).
