1974 FERRARI 246 GTS DINO
COACHWORK BY SCAGLIETTI TO PININFARINA DESIGN
Chassis No. 07912
Rosso Bordeaux with tan leather interior
Engine: V-6, mid-engine, double overhead camshafts, cast iron block and light alloy heads, 2,418cc, 178bhp at 7,000rpm; Gearbox: five-speed manual; Suspension: front and rear independent with unequal length A-arms, coil springs, tubular shock absorbers; Brakes: four wheel disc. Left hand drive.
Designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, these exquisite cars earned their reputation as superb driver's cars. Mid-engined with a flexible power unit, an uncomplicated chassis, independent suspension and a comfortable driver's cockpit, they proved to be quick, maneuverable cars that are still a joy to drive. The Pininfarina styling has lasted over 30 years and both the GT and GTS Dinos are still hugely admired by Ferrari enthusiasts.
This 246 GT Spyder, chassis number 07912, was first delivered by Wide World of Cars, Inc. of Nanuet, NY in November 1974 to Mr. David Gunn from New London, NH. The full on-the-road price was $17,800 and included an AM/FM Blaupunkt radio that is still fitted today. The Dino was used by Mr. Gunn until the end of September 1985 by which time it had traveled 18,000 miles. The second owner was Mr. Tony Singer in New York who kept the car for a year before selling it to Mr. R. Recchiuti of New Jersey when the mileage had reached 18,900. The present owner, and therefore the fourth recorded keeper, purchased the Dino in July 1987 when the mileage was 19,960. The current indicated mileage is just 20,223 which means that the car is a very low mileage example and very original, with original paint and interior. The paint has crazed with age, noticeably on the rear buttresses, and there are a few minor scratches in places. The interior has tan leather seats with brown carpets and a black dash top. The original correct type driver's door mirror is fitted, as well as the quarter-light window catches so often found missing on Dinos. Air conditioning is also fitted. The car is sold with its original Dino Warranty Card and Owner's Service Book, as well as a Dino service handbook and parts catalogue, all in a leather wallet. There is also a file of photocopy invoices relating to various service work through the years. In summation, this is a Ferrari sports car that has a continuous history and therefore should be very appealing to those collectors who appreciate originality.
