ZINNEMANN, Fred.
American Film-maker
Academy Award-winning director's script for "From Here To Eternity"
Typed manuscript inscribed and signed ("Dear Jeannie Thanks very much Fred Z. Feb 28, 1953"), being Zinnemann's first estimating draft, 162 pages, quarto, marbled end papers, full gilt-decorated calf binding, and in gilt on the cover "From Here to Eternity" and "Fred Zinnemann". Two small scuffs to the spine otherwise in excellent condition.
Nominated for 13 Academy Awards and winner of 7 including best director for Zinnemann and best picture of 1953, "From Here to Eternity" tells the story of the loves and hopes and dreams of a close-knit army barracks in Hawaii in the days leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Derived from what was thought to be an unfilmable novel by James Jones, the picture succeeds beautifully and exudes style and grace. It contains one of the most famous scenes in film history in Lancaster and Kerr's erotic sprawl in the surf, and it turned around Frank Sinatra's ailing film career. Extremely rare.
