Lot Essay

The distinctive profile of these striking consoles, which are further embellished with tops of richly grained alabastro fiorito, with pierced asymmetrical pendant friezes and angled cabriole supports carved with flowers, is closely related to a group of Mallorcan consoles sold from Ca'n Puig and Castillo de Bendinat, Mallorca, Christie's House sale, 24-25 May 1999, lots 351-2. Other related Spanish consoles in the Palace of Perelada, Gerona and the Church of El Carmen, Seville, are illustrated L. Feduchi, El Mueble Espanol, Barcelona, 1969, p. 176, fig. 152, and p. 178, fig. 153.
