Lot Essay

Active in late 16th Century Basel, Plepp's designs can often be distinguished by the lively narrative scenes included in the upper register, as in the present drawing where hunters drive fowl into a net. Comparable designs are in the Scheibenriss-Sammlung Wyss, Berne, R. Hasler, Die Scheibenriss-Sammlung Wyss, Depositum der Schweizerischen Eidgenossenschaft im Bernischen Historischen Museum, Berne, 1996, I, pp. 105-119, nos. 108-26, illustrated.
