Lot Essay

Queen Victoria stayed at Blair Castle, Perthshire with the 6th Duke and it was after this stay that she purchased Balmoral Castle in 1852. William Leighton Leitch was drawing master to the 6th Duke at Blair Castle in the 1840's and it is probable that Queen Victoria met Leitch there and appointed him as her drawing master.
