In the seveenteenth-century Nuremberg style, rectangular, on four lion feet each with crossed front paws, the base acid-etched with scrolling foliate moresques, the sides inset with rectangular panels of classical figures emblematic of the senses within landscapes, above panels of putti and fruit, the hinged cover with ovolo and circle border and inner band of masks, putti and scrolling foliage, the raised acid-etched centre with applied masks within openwork cartouches, the lion finial on sliding domed rockwork panel opening to reveal a further acid-etched rectangular compartment
