8° (174 x 106mm). Engraved title device. Contemporary French brown morocco gilt, BOUND FOR MARIE DE MEDICIS AS WIDOW OF HENRI IV BY CLOVIS ÉVE, with her arms [Olivier 2504, fer 2] surrounded by a widow's cordelière at centre of sides on a semé of fleur-de-lis, flat spine with a similar semé, gilt edges (discreet repairs at corners and spine ends), 20th-century green hard-grained morocco pull-off case. Provenance: Marie de Medicis (1575-1642, binding); Newton Hall, Cambridge (bookplate).

Clovis Éve was royal binder from 1584 to 1634. A similarly tooled binding was sold in these rooms on 1 May 1996 (lot 47).
