JAMES VI and I, King of Scotland (1567-1625) and of England (1603-1625). Collection of 9 documents on vellum including 2 signed and 7 unsigned, 20 July 1597 - 6 April 1622, sizes 160 x 310 mm - 490 x 650 mm, seven of the documents with Great Seals, including:
Document signed, a commission for Sir Richard Weston for his embassy in Germany, Westminster, 6 April 1622, one membrane, 490 x 650 mm, including an initial letter portrait of the King within a strapwork letter 'J' in pen and ink and wash, margins decorated with scrolling flowers and foliage, lines ruled in red, folded back at foot; impression of the Great Seal in brown wax depicting the King enthroned under a canopy, and on the obverse, mounted on a horse (rubbed), pendant from vellum tag; ANNE, Queen of Scotland (1589-1625) and of England (1603-1625). Document signed, and countersigned by JAMES VI and I (as King of Scotland). Confirmation of benefices of the monastery of Dunfermline for William, son of Andrew Cairns, Edinburgh, 20 July 1697, in Latin, one membrane, 510 x 501 mm (darkened, and signatures faded), endorsed on recto, 'compositio fourtie pounds' (without seal).

The commission for Sir Richard Weston, 1st Earl of Portland (1577-1635), was to enable him to attend a conference on the restoration of the Palatinate to the Elector Frederick, husband of James I's daughter, the Princess Elizabeth. (10)
