Lot Essay

A similar series of hunting scenes depicting the court of Karl Philipp von der Pfalz (1661-1742) is in the Jadgschloss Grunewald, Berlin. This type of hunting was popular at the German princely courts in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. A further series of similar scenes are in the Schloss Schwetzingen near Karlsruhe.
