Lot Essay

The attribution has been kindly confirmed by Vara Lauder, who connects the figure to that of Justice in a drawing at Chatsworth related to a lost fresco in the Palazzo Ducale, Venice, M. Jaffé, The Devonshire Collection of Italian Drawings, Venetian and North Italian Schools, London, 1995, no. 797, illustrated.
