Lot Essay

Fred Meijer has identified this as one of the rare early flower still lifes by Jan Weenix and dates the picture to the early 1680s. He compares the style to that of Weenix's early Hunting Still Life in the Staedelsches Kunstistitut, Frankfurt (no. 863), dated 1681.

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD for the attribution and for his assistance in the cataloguing of this lot.
