Lot Essay

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD for confirming the attribution to Philippe Marlier. He dates the garland to circa 1638, and notes that it is of good quality for the period.

The Personification of Charity is the work of another hand close to Erasmus Quellinus II
