Lot Essay

This corresponds closely to a picture by the artist, on paper laid on canvas, in the Musée Magnin, Dijon (Busiri Vici, op. cit., no. 129). The latter is of slightly smaller dimensions than the present picture and shows some variation in minor details of the foliage and clouds, and includes an additional figure seated to the right.
