Lot Essay

These buckets were designed to hold a chamber pot with the door, or opening, facing the wall. They often had a sunken top lined with lead, and were designed to match the normal slotted plate and peat buckets which would have stood in the dining-room. A similar Irish ribbed pot bucket is illustrated in G. Kenyon, The Irish Furniture at Malahide Castle, Dublin, 1994, pp. 66-67.
