Founded in 1832, the famous house of Castarede is the oldest in Armagnac and remains in the hands of the Castarede family.
For over 150 years the house has been distilling and maturing Armagnac in its extensive cellars at Pont de Bordes on a tributary to the Garonne. The chais and cellars are situated next to the river and cover 5,000 square metres on three separate floors. The proximity of the river helps to regulate the temperature and humidity in the chais. This high humidity provides the perfect environment for the natural break down of the alcoholic content of the spirit. The process can take decades but the result is a pure, beautiful, soft and attractive Armagnac, without any artificial colouring, softening or sweetening-agents being added.
