An oval silvered-copper plate (silver now largely rubbed), engraved with GR cypher flanked by inscriptions 1st and TR.p, and 1796, with scrolls above and below inscribed ROYAL DUBLIN LT. DRAGOONS

Lot Essay

The "Royal Dublin Light Dragoons" were raised in October 1796 by Captain John Claudius Beresford, who commanded the unit again when it was re-raised in 1803. Its official title, according to the Army List, was First Troop, Dublin County Cavalry.
