Ex Murray Collection 1925.

The published Naval General Service Medal rolls confirm John Dart as a Landsman aboard the Endymion for the action against the President in January 1815, one of just 58 recipients of this clasp recorded on the Admiralty roll.

'The honour of capturing the President in January 1815 fell to the Endymion, 40, which eventually had the co-operation of the Pomone, 38. While the arrival of the second Frigate put an end to the President's resistance, she had already been defeated by the Endymion, a smaller ship with fewer guns and a smaller crew. The fact that President's hull was riddled and that her casualties numbered 35 dead and 70 wounded is enough to show that the Endymion's gunnery was not to be despised' (Britannia Rules, by C. Northcote Parkinson, refers).
