The first clasp was awarded for six months consecutive bomb and mine disposal work in the Mediterranean. Much of this work centred on Malta and more specifically the Grand Harbour at Valetta, where a number of 1939-45 War wrecks still contained unexploded ordnance. Of the 60 or so clasps issued, the vast majority went to Divers.
