Lot Essay

Captain George Milligan was born in 1826 and educated at the Edinburgh Academy and United College, St. Andrews. Commissioned into the Bengal Artillery as a 2nd Lieutenant in June 1842, he was present at the Battles of Maharajpoor and Sobraon while attached to the 4th Battalion. Milligan was subsequently seconded for duty in the Crimea with the Turkish Contingent but died at Scutari in June 1855.
