Major Abraham Richard Fuller was born at Cawnpore, India in 1828 and was educated back home at Hall Place School in Bexley, Kent prior to joining the Honourable East India Company's Forces as a 2nd Lieutenant, Bengal Artillery in 1845. Advanced to lst Lieutenant in 1849, he was appointed an Assistant Surveyor in the Bundlecund and Saugor Survey in 1853 and an Inspector of the Department of Public Instruction in the N.W. Provinces in 1855. Based at Agra on the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny, Fuller served as a volunteer in the 21st Light Field Battery, 2nd Company, 5th Battalion, Bengal Artillery, and was present at the actions at Shaligune on 5.7.1857 and Agra on 10.10.1857. Advanced to Captain in the following year, he was appointed Director of Public Instruction in the Punjab in 1861 but in August 1867, when acting in the local rank of Major, he was swept away and drowned in an accident on the River Bungreel, near Rawalpindi.
