Lot Essay

Private Henry Peters of Maidstone, Kent, enlisted in the British Army in July 1877 aged 19 years. He served with the 24th Foot in South Africa between March and October 1879, but transferred to the 50th Foot in 1880, with whom he was present in operations in Egypt and the Sudan, 1882-83.
