Lot Essay

Captain Arthur Brine was born at Tunbridge Wells, Kent in 1856 and was commissioned into the Royal Marine Light Infantry in 1877. Subsequently employed in the Eastern Sudan operations of 1884-85, he was present at the actions at Hasheen and Tofrek, and at the burning of Tamaai on 3.4.1885. Afterwards invalided home, Brine was advanced to Captain in 1887 but resigned his Commission in the following year.
