Private Joseph Bayliss returned home from service with the 1st Battalion, Rifle Brigade in the Cape of Good Hope in December 1853. Embarked for the Crimea in March 1854 his verified services at Alma, Balaklava and Inkermann culminated with a 'Blighty Ticket' from Scutari in the Summer of 1855.
