Lot Essay

Private William Lesurf was born in London and enlisted in the Rifle Brigade in August 1891, aged 19 years. Posted with the 3rd Battalion to India in February 1893, he served in the operations on the Punjab Frontier 1897-98, returned home in January 1899 and embarked for South Africa in October of the latter year, in which Theatre of War he was employed until September 1902. Lesurf was transferred to the Army Reserve in October 1903 and finally discharged in late 1907.
