Lot Essay

Sergeant John Kitson was born at Dudley, Staffordshire in 1874 and enlisted in the North Staffordshires in 1874. Advanced to Lance-Corporal in 1896 and to Corporal in the following year, he served with the 1st Battalion during the re-conquest of the Sudan. Following further service in the East Indies and India, and promotion to Sergeant in 1910, Kitson was discharged at his own request in the latter year.
