The rectangular cedar top above a geometrically-panelled front, separated by four pilasters geometrically-inlaid with boxwood and ebonised stringing, on squared feet

Lot Essay

The chest panels are enriched with medallioned and lozenged compartments in the Roman fashion, such as Sebastian Serlio popularised with his patterns for ceilings and chimneys that were published in 1537 and republished in London in 1611.
