Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (1874-1922)
T.W.MONK (retailers). Shackleton's set of cut-throat razors in a brass-bound calamander wood box, 3¼ x 1¾ x 7in. (8.5 x 4.7 x 18cm.), brass lock and key-hole, the lid inset with brass plaque engraved with the initials 'E.H.S.', the interior lid fitted in blue satin with central gilt stamp 'T.W.Monk 19 Jermyn St Piccadilly Circus W & 63 Old Broad St. EC', the interior base fitted in wood and blue velvet with spaces for seven cut-throat razors, now containing five matched ivory-handled razors (length: 15.8cm. when closed), the blades stamped 'T.W.Monk 19 Jermyn St Piccadilly Circus W' on one side and 'and 63 Old Broad St City' on the other, the backs of each blade with engraved lettering giving the day of the week on which the razor was to be used (lacking 'Wednesday' and 'Saturday').
