A hunting procession with Indians and Europeans mounted on elephants, Lucknow

The present watercolour shows a view of Lucknow with the stone bridge of Asaf ud-Daula over the river Gomti in the middle ground. In the background to the right is the Mosque built by Aurangzeb. The figures in the foreground in the elephant procession are that of Sa'adat Ali Khan, the Nawab of Lucknow from 1799-1814 and his men, and also the General-Governor Lord Wellesley.

This is a rare example of a watercolour by a Lucknow artist from this period since the majority of pictures were destroyed in the Lucknow mutiny of 1858.
