Lot Essay

According to Dr. Ellen K. Morris, this work is a study for a larger work by Weeks of the same title exhibited at the Empire of India Exhibition, at Earl's Court, London, 1895 (no. 73 in the section of paintings and studies exhibited by Weeks).

The Walkeshwar Temples are situated at the extreme edge of the promontory known as Malabar Point. The temple of Rameshwar Shiva is shown on the left with the temple of Ganpati on the right.

This work will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné being prepared by Dr. Ellen K. Morris. We are grateful to Dr. Morris for her help in preparing this catalogue entry.
