Law was born in Bengal and although he studied art under Kunjalal Chakravarty, he was largely self-taught and painted both in watercolor and oil. Although his subject matter tended to be inspired by the Indian epics, he was also recognized as a portrait painter of some repute. He was the co-President of the Indian Institute of Art in Industry and the Secretary and Founder Member of the Society of Fine Arts, Calcutta.
