Lot Essay

Jogesh Seal studied art at the Jubilee Art Academy where his fellow students included Hemendranath Mazumdar and Atul Bose. Most of his paintings tend to depict Bengali women in rural settings and show a striking similarity to paintings by Mazumdar. Whilst alive, his works were collected by Sir Rajender Prasad Mukhopadhya and the King of Bardwan, but his promising career was cut short when he died at the early age of thirty one.
