Lot Essay

COMPARATIVE LITERATURE
A comparative lot was sold at Phillips New Bond Street, The Ernst Boehlen Chess Collection, 9 November 1998, lot 79.
The pulpit design is generally associated with Spain, particulary with the ecclesiastical significance of the bishop and the vertical leaf gallery. However its orgins are unclear and many sets were actually carved in Dieppe and Portugal.
