Augarten factory, after a design by Jaksch-Szendro, 20th century
Opposing sides in black and yellow hues on a white ground heightened in gilt, royal pieces with tiered crowns, pawns as hooded foot soldiers carrying clubs, the pieces marked to the underside with the crowned shield WIEN, in underglazed blue, and impressed with an H and MADE IN AUSTRIA
King - 33/8in. (8.5cm.); pawn - 21/8in. (5.3cm.)
