This work contains 13 of Maiakovskii's most frequently quoted poems, whose content was intended to be read aloud. It represents an important period in the development by Lissitzky of Constructivist design. Its topographical innovations helped establish the Russian avant garde in the West and and had a profound influence on the Bauhaus and De Stijl movements. The collaboration between Lissitzky and Maiakovskii established the use of colour and typographical design to give new dimensions to the word on a page.
