A SAVONNERIE CARPET
Circa 1850
The camel-brown field with a leafy wreath in each corner supporting a perching eagle flanked by a leafy sprig around a large light blue roundel containing scrolling stylised vine issuing shell-motifs, baluster vases and ornamental floral pendants together with small leafy wreaths, a broad moss-green outer band containing floral swags linking stylised vases supporting a cup, the central ivory roundel containing a large armorial within a raspberry-red laurel-leaf wreath, the ivory border at each end with an acanthus-leaf vine issuing circular floral motifs and linking raspberry-red laurel-leaf roundels containing harps at each end and a roundel with intials in the centre between raspberry-red stripes and ivory circular motifs, outer shaded blue broad stripe with charcoal-black floral vine outer rope-motif, areas damage and wear, reduced in size
