Lot Essay

The decoration on this screen is derived from four of the sixteen panels which make up the 'Portals of Athens' printed by Dufour in his workshop in Paris 1808, and was thought to be the first work by Xavier Mader for them.
We are grateful to Véronique de la Hougue for her help in preparing this catalogue entry.
