When the Beatles arrived in Hamburg for their second period there, Tony Sheridan was already in residence at the Top Ten Club. The Beatles had been impressed by Sheridan's professionalism on their first visit to the city and when they weren't playing themselves, would watch him perform on stage. ...The Beatles imitated much of what Sheridan did on stage and according to [Alan] Williams also quickly became friends in private.... Now, in addition to their own performances, The Beatles regularly backed Tony Sheridan on stage. It was this association with Sheridan that lead to their first professional recording session which in turn led to the release of their dèbut single - My Bonnie/The Saints credited to Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers.
