The period covered by this receipt represents the Beatles' first seven days of a gruelling thirteen-week engagement at the Top Ten Club, and their second professional stint in Hamburg. The hours were long and the salaries 'modest' according to the terms of their agreement with Peter Eckhorn, the club's owner, they were required to perform between 7.00 pm and 2.00 am on Mondays to Fridays, from 7.00 pm to 3.00 am on Saturdays and from 6.00 pm to 1.00 am on Sundays, with a 15-minute break every hour.
