Lot Essay

According to the inscription on the reverse, the present lot was made after Von Lenbach's copy after Murillo, 165 x 110 cm, which has been in the Schack-Galerie, Munich, since 1907, commissioned by Count Schack. Murillo's original of circa 1670, oil on canvas, 164 x 108 cm, is in the Galleria Corsini, Rome (D. Angulo Iñiguez, Murillo, II, p.163, no.170; III, plate 183).
