An assorted group of seven bronze mirrors, jing
Han Dynasty, the last mirror Song Dynasty
Comprising a white bronze mirror, guiju jing, cast with a central square of small bosses dividing an inscription referring to the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac around a central pierced knob, surrounded by pairs of 'the four divine beasts' accompagnied by larger bosses, all within a raised sawtooth pattern-border, 14.4 cm. diam.; two 'sleeve' mirrors, xiujing, cast with a different cosmic design, 6.4 and 9.3 cm. diam.; two bronze mirrors and a silver bronze xiujing, variously cast with raised concentric circles, 12 cm., 13.5 cm. and 8 cm. diam.; and a bronze mirror decorated with a twin fish motif on swirling waves, 10.6 cm. diam.
