In the manner of Thomire,the rectangular Verde Antico marble top with outset corners above a frieze with leaf-tip and egg-and-dart moldings and inset, with two pietre dure floral panels, the sides similarly inset on winged female terms ending in scrolled acanthus foliage and supported on a canted base, centering an urn, stamped three times with stencilled number 2795 and with red pencil number 2775

Lot Essay

The massive double scroll terminals of the female term supports to this impressive side table are suggestive of the late work of the firm of the celebrated fondeur-doreur Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843). Though Thomire himself retired in 1823, his firm, Thomire et Cie., survived until after 1850.
