Lot Essay

Following Fergusson's move to Paris in 1907, Harry McColl, a businessman working in Paris, became one of the artist's greatest friends.

Roberta Paflin, known as 'Bobby', was an American fashion-artist whom Fergusson met in the early 1930s in Paris where she was doing the dress collections for American papers.

Fergusson's sketch of Eileen was exectuted in Glasgow, where after 40 years living abroad, the artist and his wife settled in 1939.
