Lot Essay

This painting is from the series that began in 1965. Following a road accident that year, the artist moved to France to recover. It was there that he became struck by the beauty of the nearby forest which inspired him to embark on a series of paintings based on the trees and foliage. Wherever he travelled he would continue to work with this theme. This painting was painted in Chandigarh inspired by a beautiful rose garden near the house where he was staying.
